WordPress migration + Team independence

A luxury hotel transformed from broken and generic to a cohesive, premium hospitality destination.

Hotel Keflavik's WordPress site kept crashing. Every time the team wanted to update room prices, restaurant menus, or spa services, they had to call a developer and pay $200+. Updates were expensive, frustrating, and they were losing time. The site felt outdated and generic. They needed something that worked—and that they could manage themselves. Hótel Keflavík is a 40-year family-run luxury hotel with five distinct venues (accommodation, spa, restaurant, cocktail lounge, café) and event spaces. But their WordPress site was severely broken—hacked, unmanageable by the team, and completely failed to convey luxury. It felt generic and outdated. The hotel's actual brand—sophisticated spa, fine dining, premium suites, heritage—was invisible online. They needed a website that reflected what guests actually experience.

The Why

The Result

I redesigned and rebuilt the site in Duda with a much more polished visual system, clearer information architecture, and custom content tools that gave the team direct control over major areas of the site. I rebuilt Hótel Keflavík from WordPress to Duda as a cohesive luxury brand. The new site positions the hotel not as a generic airport hotel, but as a premium hospitality destination where every venue (spa, restaurant, lounge, café, events) is equally prestigious.

Key Features

  • Modern luxury branding:  Dark-gold color palette (deep black + warm gold), geometric HK monogram, serif/sans-serif typography hierarchy—cohesive and upscale throughout

  • Multi-venue storytelling: Each offering (accommodation, KEF Spa & Fitness, KEF Restaurant, Diamond Lounge, Diamond Suites) gets dedicated showcase sections with rich photography and clear CTAs

  • Three-panel hero: Spa + dining + accommodation presented simultaneously in the hero, communicating the full scope of the property instantly

  • Heritage & trust signals: 40-year family-run story, founded 1986 milestone, "4-star hotel" credibility markers

  • Bilingual support:  Full Icelandic/English toggle for international guests

  • Clear information architecture: Logical navigation (Accommodation, Wellness, Food & Drink, Events), comprehensive footer with separate contact info for hotel/restaurant/spa

  • Functional & manageable: Team can now update content independently without fear of breaking the site

  • Design philosophy: The new site treats Keflavík as a luxury destination, not a transit hotel. Every section sells an experience, not just a service.

What Our Clients Say

Our WordPress site kept crashing, and every time we needed to update room prices, menus, or spa services, we had to call a developer and pay them. It was frustrating and expensive. Gabby built us something completely different. Now our team manages the room content, restaurant menus, and spa info ourselves—no coding, no waiting, no surprise bills. The site looks so much more premium too. Best decision we made.
