Torfhus Retreat
A luxury retreat redesigned to feel as refined as the experience itself - and drive 61% more bookings.
Torfhús Retreat is an authentic Icelandic eco-luxury property located in the Golden Circle. Their previous website was severely limited—just three pages (home, accommodation, and barely anything else), outdated design, and didn't showcase the stunning visuals that define the retreat experience. The property's visual identity, storytelling, and curated experiences were completely invisible online. They needed a website that matched the caliber of what guests actually experience.
The Why

The Result
We rebuilt Torfhús from scratch as a full experience-first website. Every design decision - from the cinematic hero imagery to the seasonal toggle to the richly detailed activity pages - puts the guest in the retreat before they book.

Key Features
- 61% increase in direct bookings (year-over-year) and 42% increase in referrals
- Expanded from 3 pages to a full experience site with dedicated sections for accommodation, dining, activities, philosophy, press features, and editorial content
- Visual storytelling that sells the experience: cinematic hero videos, mood-driven photography, and a cohesive Icelandic eco-luxury design language
- Seasonal intelligence: A custom summer/winter toggle lets guests explore what the retreat is like during their planned visit
- Authentic content depth: Activities page showcases 12+ curated experiences (glacier tours, heli-touring, horse riding, snorkelling between tectonic plates). Dining page positions the restaurant as a destination. Philosophy page tells the genuine sustainability story.
- Interactive discovery: Custom-styled map showing the Golden Circle location and nearby attractions, with hoverable pins
- Always-visible booking CTA: Single reservation button in top-right, accessible on every page
- Design highlights: Warm muted palette (creams, stone greys, earth tones) mirroring the landscape. Clean serif/sans-serif typography. Minimal slide-in navigation. Strong press credibility (The Times, Forbes, Country Living).
